Solar Tracking Systems
Solar trackers are devices used to orient photovoltaic panels, reflectors, lenses or other optical devices toward the sun. Trackers can be grouped into classes by the number and orientation of the tracker's axes. Compared to a fixed mount, a single axis tracker increases annual output by approximately 17- 30%, and a dual axis tracker an additional 10-20 % (depending on the latitude). Since the sun's position in the sky changes with the seasons and the time of day, trackers are used to align the collection system to maximize energy production. Tracking systems move the panels throughout the day in order to keep them facing the sun. The longer they are aligned with the sun, the more energy they can produce. In reality, however, moving solar panels may not be the most practical choice for many homes and businesses.
